The Convict Hill Gang is a gathering of Austin acoustic musicians who have come together to have lots of fun with music that draws from all styles of American music - blues, country, jazz, traditional and modern folk, plus a few songs they've written themselves. All of the gang are veteran musicians who have been playing for years for audiences in Texas and the rest of the country, and some of them may already be familiar to you. One thing they all share in common is a love of playing "just for the fun of it". The 'gang' includes: Lindsay Haisley - autoharp, trombone, guitar, and vocals. He is one of the world's top autoharpists. There is also Karen Mal - guitar, mandolin, and vocals. In three short years, Karen has gone from a virtual unknown on the Austin acoustic music scene to one of the most sought-after performers around, both as a solo artist and as a sideman for others. Karen Abrahams who is on guitar and vocals may come. She already performed a very nice gig at the Market the 27th of March. Nancy Fly is on piano, accordion, fiddle, and vocals.Nancy brings a unique virtuosity to the Convict Hill Gang. Her fiddle style brings to mind Peter Stampfel of the Holy Modal Rounders with whom she used to play. Seymour Guenther takes the bass and vocals. Seymour is an extraordinarily multi-talented musician who is much in demand by other bands. Seymour has toured in Europe and the US and has played with Danny Santos, Slaid Cleaves and the Dr. Zog.
What a line-up! Come hear the Convict Hill Gang from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in 4th street at the Market.
