Texas Eastside Kings, Jesse Elllis and the Pistol Love Family Band

James Kuykendal and the Texas Eastside Kings

James Kuykendal and the Texas Eastside Kings will bring blues to the Market this Saturday, October 4. James has been playing for more than 35 years, beginning in teen bands when he was 16 in Austin. He and various band members have played through many a Saturday night at the now lost Charlie's Chicken Shack, the Ernie's Chicken Shack and many more music venues in East Austin. They bring their blues standards to the Market from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the main stage. Welcome back this easy rockin' band that made a hit appearance at the market in June.

Pistol Love Family Band

A great way to start the morning at the market is listening to the Pistol Love Family Band that brings together fiddle, guitar, bass and other instruments into a great folk band that harkens back to markets of another era. Get ready for bluegrass, old folk music, and geniune music played well by this group. They wake up market-goers from 8:30 - 10 a.m. at the main stage.

Jesse Ellis

Jesse Ellis will no doubt get the crowd jumping with his funky, bluesy rock 'n' roll. Jesse Ellis has been playing blues, funk, and rock 'n' roll since he was 14. By the time he was 16, he was playing juke joints and nightclubs in his native Mississippi. From there he had stints in New Orleans, Memphis, and Germany. All the while, he was polishing his chops and learning from bands like Ollie and the Nightingale Express and Professor Washboard. Ellis's own band, The Blues Healers, played for a while on the legendary Bourbon Street in New Orleans. But after year and a half, Ellis was ready to move on and start One Man Band, a project that would allow him to work on and record original material. Ellis current brand of rock 'n' roll is influenced by the blues that permeate the Mississippi Delta, and flavored by a groovin' New Orleans second-line beat. Ellis is sure to get the market jumping. He plays in the park from 9:30 -11 a.m.

Lee Duffy Band 9:30 a.m. and Destiny Farmer

Duffy's professional singing career began when she moved to Austin, Tx. in 1975. She sang with the popular local band, The Geezinslaw Brothers, led by Sammy Allred, as well as her own group, The Leonard Mitchell Band. Other members included Elliott Leonard, Alan Jones, Mark Parrish and John Dunne. This band played for several years in the late 70's to mid 80' at venues such as Spellman's, the Buckhorn Saloon, The Split Rail, and the legendary Armadillo World Headquarters opening for great artists such as the late Townes Van Zandt. Through the kindness of Lana and Willie Nelson the band recorded an unreleased album at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio. The Lee Duffy Band will definitely wow market goers with their brand of original Texas rock and roll. See the band this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. under the music tent.
