Sweet Music
Chrissy Flatt 9:30 a.m.

Wings of a Butterfly, comprised of 11 Flatt originals and one cover (guitarist/producer Eric Hisaw's bittersweet "Lifted a Whole Lot of Weight"), is an achievement no less impressive. John Conquest of 3rd Coast Music calls Flatt "one of the most promising young musicians in Austin," while Texas Music magazine singled out her debut as one of the best albums of the year, "alternately evoking the raw, sensual poetry of Lucinda Williams and the delicate melodic instincts of Aimee Mann." Flatt herself points to Holly as her main influence, followed closely by artists as varied as Bowie, the Ronnettes, Bob Dylan, Chrissie Hynde and Del Shannon. The result is a refreshingly original sound that blends the organic soul of country and folk with the energy and hooks of '60's pop. Come experience Chrissy Flatt's beautiful music this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. under the music tent.

Cooper's Uncle 9:30 a.m.

Young local bluegrass band Cooper's Uncle has developed quite a following over the past six months with their weekly Thursday happy-hour gig at Stubb's. The band's mix of traditional and original tunes is spiked with a shot of adrenaline as well as a tab of fry from an unlikely influence, the Grateful Dead. Like that Bay Area institution, Cooper's Uncle is carving out their own legion of devotees, and this is as good a time as any to see if you want on the bus. Nancy Scott and Sister Lissie

Main Stage - Market
Nancy Scott, has been performing in Austin for over 20 years at venues such as Emma Joes, the Cactus Cafe, the Chicago House, Chances, Shari's Sidewalk Cafe, Threadgills and Artz Rib House. Out of town performances to date, include trips to many major Texas cities as well as out of state bookings in Oklahoma City, Winston-Salem, North Carolina and San Francisco, California to name a few. Her songwriting style varies from folk to blues blended with a touch of country and rock. Her acknowledgments include top ten songwriters in the Austin Music Umbrella Songwriter's Contest in 1983, performing in the first round picks at the 1989 Kerrville Folk Festival's New Folk, and honorable mention for two of her songs in the 1990 Billboard Songwriters contest. Her entry in the 1995 Spree Songwriter's Contest was included on a compilation Spree Select CD.
Her first recording, Both Sides of Me, released in 1987, represents a cross section of her writing styles. Serious warmth, as well as insightful humor, characterize the songs on this album. That recording was re-released on CD in 1997.
"If I were shopping for songs for established talent, these are a few names I would check out in the local music section of stores like Waterloo Records, MusicMania, or Antone's Records. Nancy Scott, a songwriter who has an unusually interesting voice and a relaxed, humorous stage presence, has a collection of tunes that many a popular, big name artist would give their eye teeth to own. Check out Both Sides of Me." Belle, Music City Texas, March 1992
Her latest recording, HeartPrints in Clay (Reminiscent Records), released September 1995, was produced and co-arranged by Betty Elders and carefully put together by a culmination of talented musicians, including Millie Marlow, lead guitar and harmony vocal, who has been performing with Nancy for over 4 years . All these songs, Scott originals, except one by Emily Kaitz, represent a more serious, yet ever hopeful side of Nancy's soul.
"Scott's trademarks have always been the good-natured warmth of her stage presence and the gentle low key sadness of her mature voice and philosophical lyrics, and they all come across strongly in songs like Winter Reveals, Some People Say, Right Past Dawn and a near definitive version of (Emily) Kaitz's Worn Out Getting Wise. Outstanding, though is Old Flings, a jazz-blues torch song that evokes a cocktail lounge in the small hours." from a Music City Texas, May 1996 review of HeartPrints in Clay .

Kids' Patch
Sister Lissie (aka Melissa Lewis Connelly)
Sister Lissie is an Austin singer/songwriter with broad musical interests. "I sing with the Hildegirls, a women's choir that does twelfth century church music; I am a Unity music director; I write my own songs for kids and adults; and I love to cover other people's songs
if they have a positive message." Sister Lissie and her guitar, Nadine, will perform playful, upbeat, sing-and dance-along songs at the Kids' Patch August 9 from 9-11.
