August 20, 2005 - Maiko's Taka Sekiguchi
Maiko Sushi Lounge, the popular hang-out for happy hour sake and sushi fans, will be represented by chef Taka Sekiguchi in this special festival Chef's Circle demo that starts at 10:30 a.m.Maiko Sushi Lounge opened in March of 2005 and is located in the heart of downtown Austin on 6th street between Guadalupe and Lavaca Sts. This is a convenient location for business people in the surrounding office buildings to come in for lunch as well as for 6th street revelers to come in for dinner and drinks before a night out on the town. The lunch menu consists of more traditional Japanese foods such as udon soups and teriyaki meat bento boxes. These lunch items are elegant yet simple which caters to businesspeople that have a limited time for their lunch break. The dinner menu retains some of these items in larger portions but also contains more exciting items that are closer to contemporary Japanese cuisine than traditional Japanese fare such as our shrimp scallop with yuzu buerre blanc and saikyo miso sea bass. Maiko's sushi menu provides all the traditional fish and seafood ranging from super-white tuna which melts in your mouth to toro or fatty tuna. They also have a selection of rolls that can be made to custom fit your tastes and needs. The sushi chefs will gladly make any roll that a customer requests. Two newer additions to the lineup is the happy hour which runs from 4:30pm to 7:00pm M-S and all day in the lounge on Sundays and Mondays and the late night menu which runs from midnight to 3AM on Friday and Saturday nights. The happy hour menu consists of appetizers, such as crispy calamari and gyoza from the kitchen, and nigiri sushi starting at $1.00 a piece as well as $2.00-$3.50 rolls. The late night menu is basically a fusion of the lunch and happy hour menus for night owls who wish to eat after a night out. The fully stocked bar will be open until 2 AM on Fridays and Saturdays with a selection of drink specials and an extensive sake list. Whether you work downtown or are in the area for food and drinks, Maiko Sushi Lounge will cater to your needs and provide you with flavorful food and a downtown atmosphere seven days a week at most hours of the day.
