In the Austin Farmers' Market....



SATURDAYS
Drop in this weekend to enjoy the selection for your fresh kitchen and for your Valentine! Arnosky Family Farm has all you need to satisfy your Valentine needs with their fresh, locally-grown bouquets and welcome back Sticky Toffee Pudding by getting your Valentine a nice quiche for brunch! And if there is more on your list, then peruse the body products or the steaks, while enjoying the love bubbles floating throughout the market.

Welcome back and also a hello/howdy to these folks, coming 2/11: Returning -Nile Valley Herb tea; Penguinville Purses; Aster's Ethiopian Catering; and Russell's Beef. Returning for the season- Sticky Toffee Pudding; Maid in the Shade goat cheese; Zamudio Farm; Southside Kolaches; Bradshaw Farms; and The Herb Garland.

Not Here 2/11: Barnison Farm (some predator and delivery problems); Reena's Organic Citrus (done for the season!); and Finca Pura Vida Farm.

NOW IN SEASON
Vegetables: Tomatoes are in, come early! Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, chard, collards, salad greens and lettuces are here. Beets, turnips, and radishes. Carrots abound. P2 Organics has some sweet bell peppers along with butternut squashes. Lots of cilantro, green onions.

Fruits: Did you see Hersh's lemons from Indian Hills? Make a lovely lemon meringue pie...next week when Hersh returns!

Nuts: Hersh of Indian Hills Farm will be back next week with great pecans.

Meats: FRESH CHICKEN now offered at the Market! Fresh, never frozen chicken is coming from right in Travis County from Barnison Farm in all types of cuts and Cornish Game hens (unfortunately-out for a few more weeks), along with the whole frozen chickens from Providence Hill Farm--they are back now! Bison, beef, pork, sausage, bacon, emu meat and oil products and eggs. Thunderheart Bison is only one of two producers in the U.S. that conduct field harvests with respect. Bison health benefits include more omega 3 than salmon and great levels of beta carotene and CLA.

PLEASE BRING CLEAN CARDBOARD EGG CARTONS TO THE MARKET; these can be reused by the smaller 'yard' egg farmers. Bring them to the farmers selling eggs--they'll gladly take them off your hands.

Dairy: READY, SET....GOat CHEESE is available!! "Maid" in the Shade Farm is back! West Wind Goat Dairy will be back in April.

Baked Goods: Get Texas French Bread's habit forming ciabatta and baguettes. Brownies, sticky rolls, cookies, granola, biscotti and kolaches. Sticky Toffee Pudding has returned to offer their signature STP, scones, quiches, and johnny cakes. Check out the new offerings.

Flowers: Don't get corporate flowers from far-away places...especially for a locally inspired Valentine's Day! Buy the special spring flowers from Arnosky Family Farm in the Texas Hill Country. Get really long-lasting flowers, locally grown.

Plants: Vegetable starts, herb plants, trees, ferns, cacti, ornamentals, and herbs have arrived.

Assorted: Gazpacho, pestos, soups (TRY THE SWEET PEPPER..yum), chocolate, and preserves. Congratulations to Tom Pedersen of Cocoa Puro (Kakawa Chocolate) for making the SAVEUR Magazine's top 100 list! What an honor for the sooooo delicious chocolate original that he makes--it's there every week on Saturdays, so check it out!

Ready-to-Eat: Breakfast and lunch fajita tacos, tamales, savory kolaches, quiches (back early spring), soups, Ethiopian food, and coffee. LOTS of rehydrating drinks, including: hot hibiscus tea (Nile Valley Herbs, cranberry refresher (Southside Kolaches) and water sold at the Information Booth. Coffee, and hot chocolate at Texas Coffee Traders.

Crafts and arts: Specially designed t-shirts, soaps, paintings, jewelry, soy candles, cloth purses, aprons, yoga mat holders, clothing, and clayworks. Gifts of all kinds that are handmade, LOCAL, and sold directly by the creator!

Services: CAFÉ AREA by the band, great for people watching and music aficionados; accupuncture and massage (ahhhh...) under the trees in the park.

Just have to say, you gotta come for the TOMATOES (some even certified organic)! They are tasty and bright red, grown by four farmers in the market for a year-round crop! Who would have thought that you'd be able to get tomatoes in February from LOCAL FARMS? You can now!

Returning for the season- Providence Hill Farm (chicken, sausage, veggies); Zamudio Farm; Southside Kolaches; Creatlery; Medical Arts Accupuncture. Welcome one time only the Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association booth with a farmer volunteer selling donated organic oranges and grapefruit to raise funds for the statewide organization. The citrus is from the largest organic citrus operation in Texas, but there are just a few boxes to sell!
