Animal Farm has a great variety of Asian greens for sale this season, as do several farmers.

In the Austin Farmers' Market....



SATURDAYS
Welcome back and also a hello/howdy to these folks, coming 10/29: Creatlery, Soy Creative (candles, incense). Tracy from Colorado River Pecan farm is here for the season with a new crop of pecans.



Not Here 10/29: Blackland Prairie Farm (back in mid-November); Chautauqua Foundation Smoked Salmon; Veldhuizen Family Farm (cow milk cheeses) until later in the season; Neagelin Farm (they're out planting 160 acres for the fall); Indian Hills and Hersh are gone to Alaska and will be back in October; La Salle Shrimp really expects low harvests because of the weather.

WEDNESDAY MARKET--REOPENING NOV 2nd WITH A PARTY! At Plaza Saltillo, Wednesdays, 4 - 7 p.m., easy free parking just east of I-35 at 5th and Comal.


NOW IN SEASON
Vegetables: Tomatoes are a trickle again, with more coming from greenhouses in a few weeks. Enjoy the hierloom German ones from Bat Creek Farm.Salad greens and lettuces are here. Greens of all persuasions, turnips, radishes. Also this season are all kinds of eggplant, okra, peppers, yellow and zucchini squash, yellow squash blossoms, butternut, acorn and other heirloom squashes, beginning of chard, bok choy, mizuna and fresh herbs, including lots of basil still and cilantro. Check out the Garza Greens highschool student's booth of fresh cut herbs.

Fruits: Apples from Bat Creek are all gone! Persimmons are next to appear (not here yet). Expect citrus in late November, when it's sweeter!

Meats: FRESH CHICKEN now offered at the Market! Fresh, never frozen chicken is coming from right in Travis County from Barnison Farm in all types of cuts and Cornish Game hens, along with the whole frozen chickens from Providence Hill Farm. Bison, beef, pork, sausage, bacon, emu meat and oil products and eggs. Thunderheart bison is only one of two producers in the U.S. that conduct field harvests with respect. Bison health benefits include more omega 3 than salmon and great levels of beta carotene and CLA.

PLEASE BRING CLEAN CARDBOARD EGG CARTONS TO THE MARKET; these can be reused by the smaller 'yard' egg farmers. Bring them to the farmers selling eggs--they'll gladly take them off your hands.

Dairy: READY, SET, GOat CHEESE! "Maid" in the Shade Farm--get your goat cheese fix! Also now featuring West Wind Goat Dairy too! Raw cow milk cheeses from Veldhuizen Family Farm (they are out a little while 'til fall).

Baked Goods: Breads, sticky toffee pudding, johnnycakes, scones, rolls, cookies, granola, rolls, and kolaches. New are goat cheese cheesecakes from "Maid" in the Shade Dairy.

Flowers: Flowers from Arnosky Family Farm in the Texas Hill Country. Get really long-lasting fall flowers, locally grown. Mums for Day of the Dead alters!

Plants: Vegetable starts, trees, ferns, cacti, ornamentals, and herbs.

Assorted: Gazpacho, pestos, soups (TRY THE SWEET PEPPER..yum), chocolate, and preserves.

Ready-to-Eat: Taco Deli is coming to Market! Breakfast taco heaven at the market. Savory and sweet EMPANADAS continue this week from the Monkey's Lunchbox on Saturdays. Tamales, savory kolaches, quiches, soups, Ethiopian food, and coffee. LOTS of rehydrating drinks, including: fruitful waters (low-sugar at Southside Kolaches), cucumber lemonade (Bikkurim Farm), varying frescas (Blackland Prairie Farm) and hibiscus tea (Nile Valley Herbs). Water sold at the Information Booth.

Crafts and arts: Specially designed t-shirts, soaps, paintings, hand died/spun wool, woven shawls & socks, jewelry, soy candles, cloth purses, aprons, yoga mat holders, painted baskets and boxes, potholders, and clayworks.

Services: CAFÉ AREA by the band, great for people watching and music aficionados; and massage (ahhhh...) under the trees in the park.
