Welcome back and also a hello/howdy to these folks, coming 7/30: Returning: Creatlery (back from vacation), The Herb Shack and Bowl Designs (coming every other week). Brand New: Julie Williams of Austin Readymade, a supremely good pesto maker. Try the sweet pepper pesto.
Not Here 7/30: Taylor Farm (he's only selling on Thursdays now); Kakawa Chocolates (he's gone fishing and will be back by August 13th); Medical Arts Accupuncture (they come back August 13th). Hersh Kendall from certified organic Indian Hills Farm will be out until the fall. Two peach orchards are done for the season in peaches, Psencik and Bee Creek. Bee Creek will be back in a few weeks with pears.
WEDNESDAYS--NOW GOING UNTIL FALL--KEEP COMING!
Expect this week to see, Oasis Gardens with organic heirloom tomatoes and more with sustainably growing Ottmer's Family Farm and Bikkurim Farm (variety, including watermelon); PEACHES coming from Bee Creek Farm; and conventional Naegelin Farm (variety, including cantaloupe).The Monkey's Lunchbox is there this week, and see Texas Coffee Traders for a cool drink, as well as a few crafts.
NOW IN SEASON
Vegetables: Tomatoes are still coming, but in less volume than before (some farmers have splits in tomatoes because of the rains)-- All varieties, lots of heirlooms and lots of organic or sustainably grown. Also this season are shelled BLACK EYED AND PURPLE HULL PEAS. Eggplant, new potatoes, peppers, yellow and zucchini squash, yellow squash blossoms, butternut and acorn squash, dry onions, beets, and fresh herbs, including lots of basil. Sought after carrots (typically not available), edemame and baby turnips are at market too!
Fruits: Delicate figs and OUTSTANDING WATERMELONS AND CANTALOUPE. PEACHES, PEACHES, PEACHES from Psencik Farm, Davis Orchard Bee Creek and Caskey Orchards. Apples will be coming from Bat Creek Farm hopefully by next week!
Meats: Bison, beef, pork, sausage, bacon, emu meat and oil products and eggs. Smoked salmon. Thunderheart bison is only one of two producers in the U.S. that conduct field harvests with respect. Bison health benefits include more omega 3 than salmon and great levels of beta carotene. Chicken coming soon!
PLEASE BRING CLEAN CARDBOARD EGG CARTONS TO THE MARKET; these can be reused by the smaller 'yard' egg farmers. Bring them to the information booth at the market.
Dairy: READY, SET, GOat CHEESE! "Maid" in the Shade Farm--get your goat cheese fix! Also now featuring West Wind Goat Dairy too! Raw cow milk cheeses from Veldhuizen Family Farm.
Baked Goods: Flan from Bikkurim Farm's 3rd generation recipe and eggs, blackberry cobbler, breads, sticky toffee pudding, johnnycakes, scones, rolls, cookies, brownies, granola, and kolaches. LOTS of BAKED GOODS WITH PEACHES and TOMATOES.
Flowers: Flowers from Arnosky Family Farm in the Texas Hill Country. Get really long-lasting summer flowers, locally grown. Great sunflowers right now!
Plants: Vegetable starts, trees, ferns, cacti, ornamentals, and herbs.
Assorted: Gazpacho, pestos (soon!), chocolate, preserves, dog and cat treats and honey.
Ready-to-Eat: Tamales, savory kolaches, quiches, Ethiopian food, and coffee. LOTS of rehydrating drinks, including: fruitful waters (low-sugar at Southside Kolaches), cucumber lemonade (Bikkurim Farm), varying frescas (Blackland Prairie Farm) and hibiscus tea (Nile Valley Herbs). Empanadas are in the works from the Monkey's Lunchbox. Water sold at the Information Booth.
Crafts and arts: Specially designed t-shirts, dog and cat fashionwear, soaps, paintings, hand died/spun wool, woven shawls & socks, jewelry, soy candles, cloth purses, aprons, yoga mat holders, painted baskets and boxes, potholders, and clayworks.
Services: CAFÉ AREA by the band, great for people watching and music aficionados; and massage (ahhhh...) under the trees in the park. Medical Arts Accupuncture coming again 8/13.
