Marvin and Kevin Naegelin are inspiring young farmers, two of few fifth-generation farmers in Texas(and twins at that)!

In the Austin Farmers' Market....



SATURDAYS
Welcome back and also a hello/howdy to these folks, coming 6/4: New will be Martha B's One and Only with pestos. Come give her a try. Also shrimp is coming as a special Texas crop from La Salle Shrimp. We now have peach farmers Psencik, Davis, Caskey, and Bee Creek. (Look for Coach's Country Store's Judge Edwards to come soon). Welcome back Craig Hanson of Pecan Springs Farm, with his great garlic. Glenn Bond of Kurten Produce came to town for the first time last week and will continue through the summer, but not this week (6/4). Back from Memorial Day travels will be Penguinville Purses, The Herb Shack, Aster's Ethiopian Foods, and Creatlry by Ang. All the other folks who you missed last week were detered by the severe storms the first hour of the market and or had transportation issues. We still had more than 20 farmers at the market!

Not Here 6/4: Tres Emu Rancheros's Rita Bitz came back last week, but she will miss this week (6/4). J.C. Taylor might miss this week- as he is going out of town to be feted by his buddies for his 80th birthday! Kurten Produce, Combs Gardens, Cactus Lace, Oasis Gardens are also out this week.

What's coming soon? Pesto (this week!), pizza, pies and more farmers.

WEDNESDAYS
Expect this week to see a new vendor, Brussel Sweet Feast with ready to eat savory puff pastry sandwiches and made to order crepes and waffles; our loyal farmers--Bikkurim Farm (variety); Naegelin Farm (variety); Oasis Gardens (variety); Taylor Farm (variety); Mr. Zhang (Asian backyard vegetables); granola, biscotti, soaps, candles, strawberry lemonade and Texas Coffee Traders refreshments--the iced mocha is THE THING for a hot summer afternoon.

NOW IN SEASON
Vegetables: CORN! Coming in in limited quantities--come early! Green beans, new potatoes, peppers, garlic, yellow and zucchini squash, acorn squash, carrots, broccoli, kohlrabi, cabbage (may be last week!), greens of all kinds, tomatoes (greenhouse and early on the vine), green onions, leeks, dry onions, fennel, lettuce, beets, turnips, fresh herbs, and nopales (fresh cut cactus leaves).

Fruits: PEACHES from Psencik Farm, Davis Orchard, Caskey Orchards, Taylor Farm and Estrada Farm. BLUEBERRIES from Al and Edna's in Lexington. Blackberries in flats and flats from a few farmers. Have a summer fruit salad!

Meats: Bison, beef, pork, sausage, bacon, shrimp (coming June 4), emu (not this week-see above) and eggs. Smoked salmon.

PLEASE BRING CLEAN CARDBOARD EGG CARTONS TO THE MARKET; these can be reused by the smaller 'yard' egg farmers. Bring them to the information booth at the market.

Dairy: Raw cow milk cheeses.

Baked Goods: Flan from Bikkurim Farm's 3rd generation recipe and eggs, blackberry cobbler, breads, sticky toffee pudding, johnnycakes, scones, rolls, cookies, brownies, granola, and kolaches.

Flowers: Flowers from Arnosky Family Farm in the Texas Hill Country. Get really long-lasting spring flowers, locally grown.

Plants: Vegetable starts, ferns, cacti, ornamentals, and herbs.

Assorted: New- Pestos from Martha B's One and Only, chocolate, preserves, salsa and honey.

Ready-to-Eat: Tamales, savory kolaches, granola, quiches, Ethiopian food, coffee, fruitful waters (low-sugar at Southside Kolaches), strawberry lemondade (Bikkurim Farm) and hibiscus tea (Nile Valley Herbs). Water sold at the Information Booth.

Crafts and arts: Specially designed t-shirts, soaps, paintings, hand died/spun wool, woven shawls & socks, jewelry, soy candles, cloth purses, aprons, yoga mat holders, painted baskets and boxes, potholders, and clayworks.

Services: CAFÉ AREA by the band, great for people watching and music aficionados; and massage (ahhhh...) under the trees in the park. Isabel De Blanc, our resident artist who made so many portraits of your favorite child, dog, and other loved ones (since 2003), will be leaving us soon to travel and live outside of Austin. Let's wish her and husband Winston the best of luck and THANKS, for all the pictoral memories that hundreds of families will cherish.

Welcome back and also a hello/howdy to these folks, coming 5/28: Al Lang is coming in with his BLUEBERRIES this week. Bill Psencik of Psencik Farm snuck up on us last week and started actually then, but he joins us again this Saturday with John Lindig of Lindig Farm with their different varieties of early Hill Country PEACHES--they are a welcomed addition to the market's spread.

Not Here 5/28: Tres Rancheros Emu, Penguinville Purses, The Herb Shack, Aster's Ethiopian Foods, and Creatlry by Ang. Many of these vendors are out of town to take a short holiday and others have family matters to attend to. Kevin Ottmers may be out if his production is still in a lull.

Kevin Ottmers offers up tomatoes, grown special in his greenhouse, for the folks who need home-grown tomatoes year-round. Most field tomatoes will not be ready until a few more weeks from now.

John Lindig is back for sure this week (his advance sighting for ripe peaches was a little premature for last week) with his very early and delicious peaches! He sells out, so be sure to come early. We'll also welcome back for the first time this year Larry Ross of the Bloomin' Idiots--voted an Austin Chronicle critics choice winner for their one-of-a-kind bloomin' plants. Look for the blooming hibiscus. New to the Market will be La Salle Shrimp from Palacios--look for this family shrimper and help make him a popular vendor!
