Meet the Farmers

February 11, 2006

Look under Fresh and New to find weekly updates for who is coming and who is not.

Here are the following farmers and growers represented at the market on regular Saturdays this February: Animal Farm, Arnosky Family Farm (Texas Specialty Cut Flowers), Barnison Farm (with some time out early Feb!), Bikkurim Farm, Bradshaw Farm, Estrada Farm, Farmer Russell's Beef, Harvest Time Farm Stand, Indian Hills Farm, Johnson's Garden, Kaune Line Farm, Neagelin Farm, Oasis Farm, Ottmers Farms, P/2 Organics, Peach Creek Farm, Providence Hill Farm (with chicken), The Herb Garland, Thunderheart Bison and Zamudio Farm.

The bounty of locally grown produce is apparent at the Austin Farmers' Market with dozens of farmers, ranchers and growers present nearly every Saturday. The Austin Farmers' Market represents LOCAL farmers and producers, from the Central Texas region. The only time we have farmers, orchardists, animal husbandry ranchers or aqua-farmers at the Austin Farmers' Market outside of our local region is on rare ocassions when the fruit, meat or sea life cannot be had within our 150-mile radius. For example, we welcome citrus from 250-plus miles away grown by a bona fide farmer because oranges just don't grow well within 150 miles. But we would not host a peach grower from further than 150 miles away because there are more than enough peach growers right in our backyard, including the Hill Country area. Same goes for vegetables all in the Central Texas region.

Let's support these local farmers on Saturdays 9 a to 1 p at 4th and Guadalupe!
