Meet the Farmers
December 3, 2005
River's End will be back with lovely star fruit, one of a kind jams, and more tropical fruit to grace your holiday plates.
Look under Fresh and New to find weekly updates for who is coming and who is not.
Wednesday Austin Farmers' Market is open November and December!
Wednesdays, 4- 6:30; at Plaza Saltillo (5th and Comal- just seven blocks east of the Convention Center). Baked goods, meats, eggs, veggies and fruit. A lot of the same farmers are coming to this mid-week market too! Many organic selections.
Here are the following farmers and growers represented at the market on regular Saturdays this December: Animal Farm, Arnosky Family Farm (Texas Specialty Cut Flowers), Barnison Farm (with cornish hens!), Bikkurim Farm, Blackland Prairie Farm, Farmer Russell's Beef, Finca Pura Vida Farm, Indian Hills Farm (coming soon), Kaune Line Farm, "Maid" in the Shade Dairy, Neagelin Farm, Oasis Farm, Ottmers Farms, Peach Creek Farm, Providence Hill Farm (with pork and chicken), Reena's Organics (citrus), River's End Farm (coming December 3 with star fruit and more!), Specialized Plant Sales, The Herb Shack, Tres Emu Rancheros, Veldhuizen Farm (back after dairy rennovations), West Wind Dairy Goats, Inc., and Thunderheart Bison. We also have a few steady backyard gardeners who come to the Market to sell their extra, prolific produce right from their organic plots.
The bounty of locally grown produce is apparent at the Austin Farmers' Market with dozens of farmers, ranchers and growers present nearly every Saturday. The Austin Farmers' Market represents LOCAL farmers and producers, from the Central Texas region. The only time we have farmers, orchardists, animal husbandry ranchers or aqua-farmers at the Austin Farmers' Market outside of our local region is on rare ocassions when the fruit, meat or sea life cannot be had within our 150-mile radius. For example, we welcome citrus from 250-plus miles away grown by a bona fide farmer because oranges just don't grow well within 150 miles. But we would not host a peach grower from further than 150 miles away because there are more than enough peach growers right in our backyard, including the Hill Country area. Same goes for vegetables all in the Central Texas region.
Let's support these local farmers on Saturdays 9 a to 1 p at 4th and Guadalupe!
