Meet the Farmers

Carol from West Wind Dairy has many flavored goat cheeses from her Seguin dairy. She will probably be at the Wednesday market re-opening, November 2nd at Plaza Saltillo. See Red and Debbie at the "Maid" in the Shade goat's milk dairy booth to try out their Margarita Goat's Milk Cheesecake!

Wednesday Austin Farmers' Market re-opens with PARTY November 2nd!
Wednesdays, 4- dusk; at Plaza Saltillo (5th and Comal- just seven blocks east of the Convention Center). Music, cooking, prizes. A lot of the same farmers are coming to this mid-week market too!
Here are the following farmers and growers represented at the market on regular Saturdays this October: Animal Farm, Arnosky Family Farm (Texas Specialty Cut Flowers), Barnison Farm (with cornish hens!), Bat Creek Farm, Bikkurim Farm, Colorado River Pecan Farm, Farmer Russell's Beef, Finca Pura Vida Farm, Kaune Line Farm, "Maid" in the Shade Dairy, Ottmers Farms, Peach Creek Farm, Pecan Springs Farm (about every other week), Providence Hill Farm (new, with pork and chicken), River's Edge Farm (every 5 to 6 weeeks), Specialized Plant Sales, The Blooming Idiots (once a month, here late October), The Herb Shack, Tres Emu Rancheros (back 10/15), Veldhuizen Farm (back after dairy rennovations), West Wind Dairy Goats, Inc., and Thunderheart Bison. We also have a few steady backyard gardeners who come to the Market to sell their extra, prolific produce right from their organic plots. The first part of November we will be welcoming back several more farmers with fall crops.
The bounty of locally grown produce is apparent at the Austin Farmers' Market with dozens of farmers, ranchers and growers present nearly every Saturday. The Austin Farmers' Market represents LOCAL farmers and producers, from the Central Texas region. The only time we have farmers, orchardists, animal husbandry ranchers or aqua-farmers at the Austin Farmers' Market outside of our local region is on rare ocassions when the fruit, meat or sea life cannot be had within our 150-mile radius. For example, we welcome citrus from 250-plus miles away grown by a bona fide farmer because oranges just don't grow well within 150 miles. But we would not host a peach grower from further than 150 miles away because there are more than enough peach growers right in our backyard, including the Hill Country area. Same goes for vegetables all in the Central Texas region.
Let's support these local farmers on Saturdays 9 a to 1 p at 4th and Guadalupe!
