Meet the Farmers

Jacque McBride of Bat Creek Farm offers up sweet Gala apples to a customerLook under Fresh and New to find weekly updates for who is coming and who is not.
Here are the following farmers and growers represented at the market on regular Saturdays this August: Animal Farm, Arnosky Family Farm (Texas Specialty Cut Flowers), Barnison Farm (with cornish hens expected late August!), Bat Creek Farm, Bee Creek Farm, Bikkurim Farm, Blackland Prairie Farm, Caskey Orchards, Farmer Russell's Beef, Finca Pura Vida, Kaune Line Farm, La Salle Shrimp Co.(later summer), "Maid" in the Shade Dairy, Naegelin Farm, Oasis Gardens, Ottmers Farms, Peach Creek Farm, Pecan Springs Farm (about every other week), Providence Hill Farm (new, with pork and chicken), Reese Farm (with watermelon for limited time!), Specialized Plant Sales, Tecolote Farm, The Blooming Idiots (once a month, here late August), The Herb Shack, Tres Emu Rancheros (ocassionally), Veldhuizen Farm, West Wind Dairy Goats, Inc., and Thunderheart Bison. We also have a few steady backyard gardeners who come to the Market to sell their extra, prolific produce right from their organic plots.
The bounty of locally grown produce is apparent at the Austin Farmers' Market with over two dozen farmers, ranchers and growers present nearly every Saturday. The Austin Farmers' Market represents LOCAL farmers and producers, from the Central Texas region. The only time we have farmers, orchardists, animal husbandry ranchers or aqua-farmers at the Austin Farmers' Market outside of our local region is on rare ocassions when the fruit, meat or sea life cannot be had within our 150-mile radius. For example, we welcome citrus from 250-plus miles away grown by a bonifide farmer because oranges just don't grow well within 150 miles. But we would not host a peach grower from further than 150 miles away because there is more than enough peach growers right in our backyard, including the Hill Country area. Same goes for vegetables all in the Central Texas region.
Let's support these local farmers on Saturdays 9 a to 1 p at 4th and Guadalupe!
Come Visit the new Austin Farmers' Market Pocket Market
Wednesdays, 4- 7 pm; runs now UNTIL FALL at Plaza Saltillo (5th and Comal- just seven blocks east of the Convention Center). A lot of the same farmers are coming to this mid-week market too!
