Meet the Farmers

Summer brings us farmers who have a market-basket full of produce in brilliant colors.
Look under Fresh and New to find weekly updates for who is coming and who is not.
Here are the following farmers and growers represented at the market on regular Saturdays this July: Al & Edna's, Animal Farm, Arnosky Family Farm (Texas Specialty Cut Flowers), Bee Creek Farm, Big Foot Farm, Bikkurim Farm, Blackland Prairie Farm, Buena Tierra Farm, Caskey Orchards, Chickamaw Farm, Coach's Country Store, Davis Orchards, Farmer Russell's Beef, Finca Pura Vida, Harvest Time Farm, Home Sweet Farm, Kaune Line Farm, La Salle Shrimp Co., "Maid" in the Shade Dairy, Naegelin Farm, Oasis Gardens, Ottmers Farms, Peach Creek Farm, Pecan Springs Farm, Psencik Farm, Rain Lilly Farm, Specialized Plant Sales, Taylor Farm, Tecolote Farm, The Blooming Idiots (once a month, here 7/16), The Herb Shack, Tres Emu Rancheros, Veldhuizen Farm, Wolf Creek Farm, and Thunderheart Bison. Starting soon will be the returns of Kurten Produce, Green Valley Farm, Living Arts Farm, and others--they're a little late with the crazy weather. That's more than three dozen farmers!
The bounty of locally grown produce is apparent at the Austin Farmers' Market with over three dozen farmers, ranchers and growers present every Saturday. The Austin Farmers' Market represents LOCAL farmers and producers, from the Central Texas region. The only time we have farmers, orchardists, animal husbandry ranchers or aqua-farmers at the Austin Farmers' Market outside of our local region is on rare ocassions when the fruit, meat or sea life cannot be had within our 150-mile radius. For example, we welcome citrus from 250-plus miles away grown by a bonifide farmer because oranges just don't grow well within 150 miles. But we would not host a peach grower from further than 150 miles away because there is more than enough peach growers right in our backyard, including the Hill Country area. Same goes for vegetables all in the Central Texas region.

Wednesdays, 4- 7 pm; runs until July 27th at Plaza Saltillo (5th and Comal- just seven blocks east of the Convention Center). A lot of the same farmers are coming to this mid-week market too!
