Meet the Farmers

December 4, 2004

The bounty of locally grown produce is apparent at the Austin Farmers' Market with more than a dozen farmers, ranchers and growers present every Saturday, even in this later fall season. The Austin Farmers' Market represents LOCAL farmers and producers, with ALL vendors coming from 150 miles away or less. PLEASE NOTE: Farmer appearances are written as of Tuesdays; should there be a change because of staffing or crop issues, we apologize for the inconvenience.

Tim Miller of Millberg Farm is bringing in certified organic shelled pecans, leeks, green onions and more this Saturday. Naegelin Farm is back, with a truckload of fresh greens, green onions, spinach and root crops.

Here are the following farmers represented at the market on regular Saturdays: Animal Farm, Arnosky Family Farm, The Garza Greens (a project of Garza High School students), Indian Hills Farm (every other week and here 12/4), Ottmers Farms, Oasis Gardens, Bikkurim Farm, Veldhuizen Farm, and Thunderheart Bison. Pecan Street Farm will come back in December with green garlic and dried garlic and look for Millberg Farm in December with certified organic pecans, among some winter organic crops.

Bradshaw Farm will be back soon with tomatoes, as well as Gundermann Farm with the wide array of certified organic greens, cole and root crops. Kaune Line Farm will start again in the new year.

Loncito's Lamb is done for the season but please call him at 361-318-6709 if you happen to go by his place in Dinero. Bat Creek Farm has also been ravaged by racoons so Kim and Jacque McBride won't be coming in with their Pink Ladies (well, until next August!).

Let's support these local farmers on Saturdays 9 a to 1 p at 4th and Guadalupe!
