Meet the Farmers
October 30, 2004
The bounty of locally grown produce is apparent at the Austin Farmers' Market with over a dozen farmers, ranchers and growers present every Saturday, sometimes blooming to 20 in high harvest weeks. The Austin Farmers' Market represents LOCAL farmers and producers, with ALL vendors coming from 150 miles away or less. PLEASE NOTE: Farmer appearances are written as of Tuesdays; should there be a change because of staffing or crop issues, we apologize for the inconvenience.
Here are the following farmers represented at the market on regular Saturdays: Animal Farm, Arnosky Family Farm, Kaune Line Farm (every other week), Colorado River Pecan Farm, Combs Gardens, The Garza Greens (a project of Garza High School students), Indian Hills Farm (every other week), Ottmers Farms, Oasis Gardens, Lost Truffle Farm, The Herb Shack, Bikkurim Farm, The Blooming Idiots, Veldhuizen Farm, Alexander Family Farm (back in early Nov.), and Thunderheart Bison. Pecan Street Farm with Craig Hanson will start this week with his offering of garlic.
The farms out until November include Alexander Family Farm, Gundermann Farm, Big Foot Farm, Rain Lilly, Spicewood Spines, Zamudio Farm and Bradshaw Farm will be back in late fall with tomatoes.
Loncito's Lamb is done for the season but please call him at 361-318-6709 if you happen to go by his place in Dinero. Bat Creek Farm has also been ravaged by racoons so Kim and Jacque McBride won't be coming in with their Pink Ladies (well, until next August!).
Let's support these local farmers on Saturdays 9 a to 1 p at Republic Square Park - 4th and Guadalupe!
