Meet the Farmers

Fall - Winter 2006

Kevin Ottmers with tomatoes!

Look under Fresh and New to find weekly updates for who is coming and who is not.

Here are the following farmers and growers represented at the market on regular Saturdays this fall and winter: Animal Farm, Arnosky Family Farm (Texas Specialty Cut Flowers), Barnison Farm, Bikkurim Farm, Blackland Prairie Organic Farm, Bradshaw Farm, Farmer Russell's Beef, Garza Greens, Guinea Hill Farm, Harvest Time Farm Stand, Indian Hills Farm, Kaune Line Farm, Maid in the Shade, Montesino Farm, Millberg Farm, Neagelin Farm, Oma's and Opa's Farm, Ottmers Family Farm, P/2 Organics, Peach Creek Farm, Pecan Springs Farm, Reena's Citrus Sembra Farm, Rhew Orchard, Scott Arbor Farm, Thunderheart Bison, and Westwind Goat Dairy.

The bounty of locally grown produce is apparent at the Austin Farmers' Market with dozens of farmers, ranchers and growers present nearly every Saturday. The Austin Farmers' Market represents LOCAL farmers and producers, from the Central Texas region. The only time we have farmers, orchardists, animal husbandry ranchers or aqua-farmers at the Austin Farmers' Market outside of our local region is on rare ocassions when the fruit, meat or sea life cannot be had within our 150-mile radius. For example, we welcome citrus from 250-plus miles away grown by a bona fide farmer because oranges just don't grow well within 150 miles. But we would not host a strawberry grower from further than 150 miles away because there are more than enough strawberry growers right in our backyard. Same goes for vegetables all in the Central Texas region.

Let's support these local farmers on Saturdays 9 a to 1 p at our new site (temporary) at Cesar Chaves and Lavaca and on Wednesdays at the Whole Foods Market, 4 - 7 pm at 5th and Lamar! Both have free parking in garages!
