Since 1975, Sustainable Food Center has been implementing Neighborhood Farmers Markets in east Austin and north central Austin to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables for low-income families, especially mothers with young children who are enrolled in the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP). The following markets identified with ** can also now accept food stamps (Lone Star: SNAP) and debit cards. They all accept cash.

Local farmers are at stands weekly through the height of season in the summer to sell their farm-fresh produce to moms that have coupons that can only be redeemed specifically at registered markets (only from May - July in SFC Neighborhood Farm Market sites, May - September at the two main markets downtown and at The Triangle). SFC works with the City of Austin Health Department, the Texas Department of State Health Services, the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department and several farmers to institute these farm markets at the following sites (in addition, the two main markets on Saturday and Wednesday also are registered to accept the FMNP coupons).
